Strangers with Colons

Colorectal cancer is on the rise, especially among younger adults. Screen for Life, a national CDC campaign, needed to raise awareness about updated colorectal cancer screening guidelines—which now recommend starting screening at age 45 instead of 50.

But the unknowns and fear around screening prevent many from scheduling their colonoscopy, even when they know they should. “Strangers with Colons” is an unconventional interview series that breaks the stigma and sheds light on what screening involves. These videos pair strangers from different walks of life, meeting for the first time ever on camera, as they engage in candid, relatable conversations about colonoscopies.

Let’s Get Candid About Colonoscopies

Participants were cast based on their varying colonoscopy stories and arrived on set with minimal knowledge of what was about to unfold. We gave them cue cards with questions they could ask their stranger who they’d just met—and let them do the rest.
